1. Overview
This test evaluates the ability of an air purifier to remove fine particulate matter (PM2.5) from a 30 m³ test chamber.
2. Applicable Products

・Air purifiers
・Air conditioners
・Other products intended for the removal of particulate matter
3. Standards and Regulations
・Japan Electrical Manufacturers’ Association Standard JEM 1467, Annex G: “Performance Evaluation Test for the Removal of Fine Particulate Matter (PM2.5)”
4. Test Method
Five cigarettes are burned using a cigarette smoking machine in a 30 m³ test chamber in which the test specimen has been installed, thereby filling the chamber with cigarette smoke.
After combustion is completed, a mixing fan is operated to uniformly disperse the particulate matter throughout the chamber. Particle concentrations in the size range of 0.1–2.5 μm are measured over time (up to 90 minutes) using a digital dust meter equipped with a PM2.5 cyclone separator.
The same test is also conducted under a control condition in which the test specimen is not operated. By comparing the results obtained under the two conditions, the PM2.5 removal performance of the test specimen is evaluated.
